Ag, Food, and Natural Resources

After researching careers in the Ag, Food, and Natural Resources cluster, you should be making connections between those careers and your day to day life. How does each of the two careers you learned about relate to your life? How does each of those careers relate to our community? How do they relate to, fit in to, or affect our nation in general?

Learning Styles

Do you remember when we talked about the three learning styles? Mr. Boyars and I taught in the three different learning styles for that class period and explained why we did. After that, you took a learning styles survey on careercruising.com.

The three learning styles were tactile, auditory, and visual.

How do all three learning styles relate to your chosen career? How can your personal learning style be used in your chosen career?

Business Management and Administration vs. Chosen Career

Remember completing My Skills? Open up your results on CareerCruising.com and take a minute to remember what skills your chosen career suggested you have.

Now choose one career from the Business Management and Administration cluster and compare the two careers and what skills they may need to have.

Do they have similar skills required or are they completely different? Explain what skills they share in common. If they do not share skills in common, what skills might each one may need to be successful in that profession?

Post-Secondary Paths

Students have completed the Matchmaker survey on CareerCruising.com and from that survey, chosen a career from their results as their "chosen career." After completing a plan of study for their high school classes, it's now time to look at their post-secondary paths.

Choose the track that fits your career! You do not have to answer both. Make sure to get it approved by Mr. Stone in order to start your blog!

Any Post-Secondary Schooling Track

In your chosen career, what is the education required? Next, find a school on CareerCruising in the state of Illinois that has an approved program. Answer the following questions
  • What school?
  • What is the enrollment of the entire school? How many students are undergraduate?
  • What is the expense?
Finally, describe a sample career path for your chosen career in your own words. What are the responsibilities of each level of the career path? What are the working conditions? Tell me how this career fits your interests and why you would like to work in this field.

Workforce Track

In your chosen career, what is the education required? What other type of training might be needed specifically for your career? (Look at CareerCruising's education/training section)

Describe a sample career path for your chosen career in your own words. What are the responsibilities of each level of the career path? Is there a significant pay raise associated with the promotions? What are the working conditions? Tell me how this career fits your interests and why you would like to work in this field.

Finally, take a look at the interviews associated with your career on CareerCruising. Summarize what one of the interviewees does on a daily basis. Also, take a look at "Questions/Answers" and "Breakdown of Activities" in the interview section to help you summarize one of the interviews.

Put some thought into your responses! These should be well written and thought out completely. Remember, "read, THINK, then write," don't just "read then write!" Happy blogging!

Architecture and Construction....How does it relate?

Students have just researched careers in the Architecture and Construction cluster. Please describe your two careers (in depth) within the cluster to begin with. Remember what we tend to share....tasks, education req., projected growth, wages, etc. How do your careers affect the nation and the economy as a whole? Finally, find one similarity and one difference between one career in the Architecture and Construction cluster and your chosen career. This may require some thought. Happy blogging!

Career Exploration 1st Blog

You've been in Career Exploration class for almost 1/2 the semester now.  Let's revisit the ultimate goal of the doing the work.

Why do your teachers ask you to do what they've asked of you--what is the ultimate goal of the course? What specific tasks have they asked you to do so far?  How does that work (fact sheets) contribute to the ultimate goal?  How does it all line up and why does it matter?

Write in complete sentences. Punctuation and grammar is a must!
